It’s been a long and nice summer! I had four weeks of continuous vacation for the first time in 13 years. Finally I got to spend some time with my wife and kids and not worry too much about work.

It was really good news that space shuttle Discovery performed so well. If anything had happened, I would have been forced to cover the story for the Norwegian Space Centre, like I did last year. But things went very well!

The first thing I did after my vacation was to fly up to Andøya, north of the Arctic Circle, to give two lectures to participants at the European Space Camp. They all fell asleep during my lecture about the Norwegian Space Centre (I probably would have, too - they had been up half the night and this was the start of the day!).

However, my lecture on the US Vision for Space Exploration as compared to the European Aurora program got really interesting and I think I managed to create some enthusiasm for the coming decades. Let’s hope it lasts.

Back to work now, I hope to be able to keep updating my blog - and will, as usual, hang out at Hypography.
